As you can see from the attached statements, none of the Parishes has yet returned to pre -Covid levels for Operating Income (largely due to a decline in attendance), but fortunately, all Parishes have all been able to reduce their Operating Expenses over the last few years. As well, the Canada Wage Subsidy is no longer being paid to the Parishes. This subsidy was a great help to the Family during the pandemic.
We are providing a snapshot of the Financial Statements for each Parish. The largest sources for income and the largest expenses are shown as well as the Total Operating Income and Expenses. The Operating Surplus/Deficit and the Capital Surplus/Deficit are in bolded print on the spreadsheet.
The first column shows the 2022 amounts, the 2nd column shows the 2021 amounts, while the 3rd column shows the difference between 2022 and 2021 amounts. The final column shows the 2019 amounts, so that you are able to see pre Covid amounts.
The report also shows the Bank balances and the Loan Fund Deposit for each Parish. We face financial challenges as we strive to return to a balanced financial situation. St. Vincent de Paul Parish was canonically closed in November 2022 but continues to incur some operating costs into 2023 (utilities, alarms etc.) until the sale of the property closes within the next few weeks. When the property sale has closed, the funds from the sale will be deposited with the Diocese in the Loan Fund for Our Lady of the Atonement Parish which has assumed canonical responsibility for the territory.
St. Anthony of Padua has not yet resumed the celebration of Eucharist but there are parishioners continuing to support the parish on a weekly basis.
St. John Vianney struggled financially this past year but is making progress in 2023 with increased Sunday attendance and financial support. We face some additional roofing challenges in 2023 with hopes to complete Phase 2 of the tower and now the roof of the hall needs replacement.
Our Lady of the Atonement managed the replacement of two HVAC units for the Atonement Family Centre, long-delayed because of Covid. It was able to post a modest surplus for the past year.
The Finance Council would like to thank all of our generous Parishioners, our devoted Staff and the many Volunteers for their continued support of our family of Parishes. We are truly blessed.
